Remeron (Mirtazapine) is a prescription antidepressant medication. It is used to treat depression and it improves mood and feelings of well-being. Mirtazapine belongs to the group of medications known as tetracyclic antidepressants. This medication works by restoring the balance of natural chemicals (neurotransmitters) in the brain. Antidepressants may take a few weeks to show the benefits so you have to be patient. Remeron should be taken exactly as prescribed by the doctor.

Side Effects and Precautions

The common side effects may include constipation, dizziness, drowsiness, dry mouth, and increase in appetite and weight gain. The serious side effects may include:
• Eye pain/swelling/redness;
• Fainting;
• Fast or irregular heartbeat;
• Severe dizziness;
• Vision changes such as blurred vision

You should not use Remeron if you are allergic to Mirtazapine. Before you start using this medication, talk to your doctor about your medical history and about all the medications you are currently taking including OTC and herbal medications. This medication may make you dizzy or drowsy. Do not drive or do any activity that requires you to be alert until you know you can perform these activities safely. Limit your alcoholic beverage intake. It is unknown whether this medication passes into breast milk. Inform your doctor before breast-feeding a baby. There may be an interaction between Mirtazapine and other medications such as alfuzosin, bupropion, cabergoline, celecoxib, cyclosporine, estrogen, gemifibrozil, quinine, tamoxifen, zolpiderm, etc.
